At the end of a peaceful little lane, Villa Desa Roro gathers five bedrooms into a cluster of traditional Balinese pavilions, arranged around a sparkling pool and wrapped in tropical greenery. The mood is stylish but easygoing, with plenty of shared spaces for getting together and quiet corners for time apart. That makes it a natural fit for families and groups of friends. Children can roam the big garden, a large and welcoming team takes care of meals, BBQs and massages, and a new garden event space opens the door to celebrations of up to 100 guests. Canggu's restaurants, boutiques and nightlife are all close by, so you get the best of both worlds.
The villa's five air-conditioned bedrooms are spread across three pavilions. Each has a king-size bed under a mosquito net and an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in rain shower and basins made from antique Chinese ceramic bowls. Travelling with little ones? Baby cots, high chairs and a babysitter can be arranged on request.
The main living pavilion holds two of the bedrooms. One opens onto a shaded private terrace with rattan armchairs overlooking the garden, and the other looks out over the ornamental lotus pond.
The master bedroom has an entire pavilion to itself. Reach it along the wooden walkway above the pond, or through the sliding glass doors from the pool deck. The suite has a lounge with rattan armchairs, a sofa and a large Smart TV with streaming services, plus a bathtub and its own massage bed, so you can enjoy a treatment without leaving your room. A working desk made of reclaimed wood is there if work calls.
A separate pavilion facing the pool holds two smaller bedrooms of similar design. They share a common living space with several seating areas. Pull up one of the four armchairs for a round of vintage board games, or take a glass of wine at the rattan table out front.
This is a garden made for playing. Broad lawns invite fun games, shady spots suit a book or a nap, and a quiet corner is ideal for a relaxed BBQ. A new event space in the garden welcomes celebrations of up to 100 guests, arranged on request and subject to approval. When it's time to eat, a large outdoor family table under the trees seats the whole group.
The 12-meter pool is the heart of the villa, framed by a generous wooden deck that suits both lively afternoons and lazy ones. Single and double sun loungers with umbrellas line the water. At the far end, behind the master suite, an elevated spa area looks over the pool, a lovely spot for a relaxing massage or other spa treatment.
The open-sided living room faces the pool, garden and pond, and serves as the villa's social centre. Paintings and artefacts from across Indonesia and South East Asia give the space its character. Under the tall joglo roof, two comfortable sofas invite the group to gather. The inside dining area has a solid teak table with rattan chairs. The neighbouring fully equipped modern kitchen has an espresso machine, a blender, a juicer, wine cooler and all the everyday appliances. For downtime, there is a wide range of board games, including a poker set, Scrabble, Monopoly and Jenga, and a dedicated desk in a corner of the living area for anyone who needs to work.
A large, friendly team looks after the villa and its guests. Their home cooking is a guest favorite, with leisurely breakfasts, candlelit dinners and BBQ feasts prepared and served by the team on request. For relaxation, the massage gazebo has two massage beds and views over the pool, and treatments can also be given in your master suite. The team is happy to organize day trips around the island as well. Meals, BBQ and spa treatments are arranged on request at an additional cost.
Trendy cafés, boutiques and restaurants sit close by, along with one of the area's best yoga classes. Mata Berawa, on the villa's own street, serves honest Indonesian dishes, and Milk & Madu Berawa is a much-loved family café with a children's playground and kids' menu. Berawa Beach is a short stroll away, and Finn's Beach Club is the go-to for sunset drinks and DJ sets. Canggu is one of Bali's most talked-about corners, and Seminyak, with its range of restaurants, cocktail bars, clubs, spas and boutiques, is a 10-minute drive away.
