Now, we’re redefining sustainable travel by ensuring luxury experiences can uplift both people and the planet.
But beyond the ocean views and infinity pools, we’re focused on something just as important: building a travel model that gives back more than it takes.
Sustainability isn’t an add-on for us. It’s part of how we operate, grow, and imagine the future of tourism.
A Quiet Shift That Speaks Volumes
In 2024, we released our first-ever Sustainability Report, marking a new chapter in our commitment to accountability and setting tangible goals.
One of the clearest milestones: our commitment to becoming net-zero in carbon emissions by 2040.
We started by measuring our environmental impact across all levels of operation, from our internal electricity use to business travel and supplier emissions. Starting there, we took immediate action:
- Offset 108% of our carbon emissions through verified removal projects, including reforestation and biodiversity reserves
- Installed photovoltaics panels at our Bali office to cut energy-related emissions
- Partnering with Urban Compost, a local partner that helps us convert organic waste into nutrients for community gardens
- Reviewed villa operations in Bali to ensure none are located in protected agricultural zones
Each action represents a step forward. We’re actively redefining sustainable travel by setting measurable goals and pushing industry standards.
Tools That Help Guests Choose Better
We understand that our guests care about their impact. And they want to make responsible choices without sacrificing comfort or quality. To make that easier, we launched several key tools and features in our villa booking platform.
- A sustainability filter allows guests to identify properties aligned with verified eco-certification standards
- We’ve encouraged and guided 21 villa owners (and counting) through the process of earning sustainability credentials
- Our team conducts on-the-ground assessments and provides tailored sustainability advice for each partner property
This hands-on approach is part of how Villa Finder is redefining sustainable travel, giving guests the power to make informed, responsible choices without sacrificing comfort.
Reforesting Through Travel
Environmental impact can take many forms, and one of the most tangible is reforestation. From the start, we’ve believed in connecting bookings to positive action. That belief gave rise to our “1 Booking = 1 Tree” program, which has now led to the planting of over 26,000 trees.
These trees are not symbolic—they’re part of active reforestation efforts across Indonesia’s mangrove and tropical forest ecosystems. In partnership with organizations like ReforestAction, Yagasu, and Segara Ayu, we support long-term environmental restoration and local economic stability.
Mangroves, in particular, play a vital role in protecting coastlines, nurturing biodiversity, and capturing carbon. With every villa booked, guests indirectly support these benefits—simply by choosing to stay with us.
Strengthening Communities Through Microloans
Our sustainability mission doesn’t stop at the environment. Social impact is equally important. That’s why we’ve partnered with Kiva, an international nonprofit that facilitates microloans to entrepreneurs who lack access to traditional banking services.
To date, we’ve contributed over USD $17,000 in loans, focused primarily on women-led businesses and agricultural projects in Southeast Asia. This initiative supports the local communities we’re privileged to work in and helps build economic resilience from the ground up.
Small Changes, Big Ripples
In 2025, Villa Finder took its environmental responsibility further by joining 1% for the Planet, committing a portion of our annual revenue to environmental nonprofits. We also became members of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), reinforcing our belief that tourism must operate with integrity and transparency.
These memberships are not badges of honour—they are working frameworks. They guide how we engage with stakeholders, select villa partners, and communicate our values through everyday decisions.
Cultivating Awareness and Action
Sustainability is a journey, and education is part of the process. We’ve invested in resource guides and eco-handbooks for our villa owners and guests, offering tips on low-impact travel, sustainable dining, and local experiences that benefit both people and the planet.
We’ve also encouraged our villa partners to use tools like Sustonica and EnviroRental, which provide accessible pathways for improving operational sustainability in short-term rentals.
Our belief is simple: the more knowledge people have, the more empowered they are to make conscious choices—at home and on holiday.
Looking Ahead
We don’t consider sustainability a campaign or a quarterly initiative—it’s an integral part of how Villa Finder grows. As we move forward, our efforts are focused on scaling impact without losing the personal attention that defines our brand.
Some of our upcoming priorities include:
- Supporting 150 villas to achieve sustainability certification through Sustonica
- Rolling out solar energy initiatives at more of our local hubs
- Offering personalized sustainability assessments for all new villa partners
- Strengthening our guest experience with eco-friendly travel recommendations
We’re also investing internally. From diversity-focused hiring practices to employee wellness and mental health support, we’re building a company culture that reflects the same values we bring to the travel community.
A Broader View of Hospitality
Luxury doesn’t have to come at the planet’s expense. At Villa Finder, we see each booking as a chance to create value—both for the traveller and for the communities and ecosystems that make our destinations extraordinary.
Sustainability, for us, isn’t a trend. It’s a promise to stay curious, stay accountable, and keep raising the bar on what responsible travel can look like.
