This is more of a day-long treatment than a specific massage, but it’s such a fantastic experience, it had to be mentioned. This outdoor spa consists of a traditional bale with a hilltop position that gives it a view of unparalleled natural beauty, overlooking mile upon mile of a lush tropical jungle. The complete luxury package includes a welcome drink, your choice of oils, a soothing foot bath, a blissful 90-minute long therapeutic massage, a three-course lunch and winds up with a relaxing reflexology session.

3. Signature Massage – Amo Spa

Amo Spa offers two signature massages, ‘Rejuvenate Me’ and ‘Relax Me’ and both are sublime. The spa specialises in the ancient techniques of Balinese massage, lots of pressure point stimulation mixed with long strokes and a heady blend of essential oils.

Rejuvenate Me, a combination of lomi lomi and deep tissue work, is perfect way to recover at the end of a long, hard workout. The massage is completed with a calming cucumber mask and a warm lavender towel to clean up any excess oil.

Relax Me is a less intense massage, with a soft to medium pressure, that has been designed to help the stresses of the day simply melt away and give a sense of complete relaxation.

As an added treat, Amo offers add-on treatments for all their massages, including body scrubs and masks.

Two hours in the Sanctoo Spa will leave you looking as good as you feel. The first step is a salt mousse treatment, designed to smooth and de-age the skin. This is followed by a full body massage with an oil specially chosen for its ability to help eliminate stress. The final stage is a facial which utilises organic elixirs that promote not only supple and radiant skin but also a sense of utter relaxation.

5. Balmy Bali – Spring Spa The Village Seminyak

In keeping with the surrounding neighbourhood of Seminyak (great news for if you are staying at our Seminyak villas!), the Spring Spa is a funky and stylish rooftop destination in one of Bali’s most exclusive malls (its been declared Asia’s Best Day Spa on more than one occasion!). Your massage will be accompanied by the soothing sounds of a live DJ and, if you are not quite ready to face the real world once it is done, you can stop off at the bar to enjoy an ocean view and a refreshing drink. There are several treatment packages on offer, but I recommend the Balmy Bali. A traditional Balinese massage, by some of the most skilled therapists on the island, followed up by a cream bath and intensive head massage.

Location: Rooftop Level, Seminyak Village, Jl. Kayu Jati Basangkasa, Seminyak, Bali 80361

6. Tjampuhan Special Treatments – Hotel Tjampuhan Spa

Like so many of Ubud’s fantastic spas, the Tjampuhan Spa is situated in the midst of a dreamy natural landscape (in this case, a babbling brook flows just a few feet from the massage beds). The spa’s real pièce de résistance, though, is its extraordinary spring water jacuzzi which is enclosed in a cave covered with carvings of various figures from Balinese mythology. There are a few great packages on offer here (such as the Tjampuhan Ratu which includes a massage, body scrub, facial, yoghurt rub and flower bath) but, I’m choosing to highlight their ‘Special Treatments’. There are a few of these to choose from, including a facial / face massage, back and shoulder massage and a reflexology massage, all of which take only half an hour and cost 200,000 Rp. All in all, these make a great way for anyone on a tight budget, or who is seriously pressed for time, to experience a top-notch spa.

7. Chocolate Fondue – the Spa at Peppers Seminyak

The Chocolate Fondue at this luxurious spa, conveniently located right in the heart of Seminyak, provides the perfect way for any chocoholics out there to unwind. A delightful full-body traditional Balinese massage which leads into a body scrub, a milk chocolate body mask and is finished off with a warm chocolate bath and body lotion (chocolate, of course!). Best of all, this is one chocolate feast you can indulge in that is completely guilt-free!
