What Exactly is the Glasgow Declaration?
So, what’s the Glasgow Declaration all about? It’s a rallying cry for the travel and tourism sectors, uniting us under a shared mission to tackle climate change. Launched at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in November 2021, this initiative encourages the industry to get serious about cutting emissions. The goal? A minimum 50% reduction in tourism-related emissions over the next decade and a determined push towards achieving Net Zero well before 2050.

At Villa Finder, we’ve been flexing our eco-friendly practices since 2015. Our mission has been crystal clear: raise awareness among travellers and protect our beautiful planet. We kicked things off with our “One Booking = One Tree” program, dedicated to restoring Indonesia’s peatland ecosystem. And we didn’t stop there! We’re setting our sights on achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 (yes, we know, we’re really quite ambitious). To lead this effort, we’ve hired a new Sustainability Coordinator who works closely with our team to help improve our carbon footprint and offer support to our villa partners who want to implement impactful sustainability initiatives.

Our aim is to keep global temperature rise to a maximum of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels by 2100. This isn’t just lip service, btw; we’re seriously putting in the work to update our climate action plans within the next 12 months, following the Declaration’s five pathways:
